The Fry Family YMCA is more than fitness. It’s a place to belong, a place to grow, and a place to call home.
New Executive Director Ray McGury grew up with the YMCA in Chicago and loves the sense of community.
“There’s a sense of community here that I have never seen before. I can feel it. I felt that the first couple of days I was here,” said McGury.
From early-morning cyclists and swimmers to members who gather over coffee, McGury says the YMCA brings together people from all walks of life.
“You can just feel it,” he said. “It’s just a collage of people.”
That connection is evident in the small interactions that happen throughout the day. Members greet one another, make plans to meet again, and form friendships that extend beyond their workouts.
For McGury, that is at the heart of what makes the YMCA special.
“It’s just this whole, ‘You’re one of us,’” he said. “It’s kind of contagious.”
Programs and activities at the Fry Family YMCA in Naperville
The Fry YMCA offers a wide variety of fitness and recreation programs. They offer a variety of sports programs, camps, fitness classes, youth programs, and much more that will keep families healthy and happy.
The community center features a pool, basketball court, weight-lifting gym, cardio center, and aerobic fitness classes.
A fresh look for a familiar place
One of the biggest projects on the horizon is a major renovation of the fitness area. The YMCA of Metro Chicago has committed to outfitting the facility with a brand-new weight room featuring new fitness equipment.
McGury says the upgrade is overdue and will help the YMCA continue meeting the expectations of its members.
“The fitness room is adequate. But it’s old. It’s just old,” he said. “I think people demand better and they deserve better. And so we’re going to give them better.”
